CHRONOLOGY OF MANDATORY SPRAYINGS - GLASSY-WINGED SHARPSHOOTER PROGRAM, CALIFORNIA, OVERSEEN BY THE CALIFONIA DEPT. OF FOOD & AG.

-Spring, 2000 was the 3^rd year of GWSS being defined as a "problem" in Temecula, Riverside County

-Protocol of program is at least 2 rounds of sprayings done 2 weeks apart and if GWSS is found again, other rounds of sprayings

-mid-March, 2000 aerial spraying of Lorsban (active ingredient Chlorpyrifos) whose home and commercial counterpart, Dursban, was about to be banned (was banned June 8^th, though allowed to be sold for another year and one-half!). Also applied Admire (active ingredient Imidacloprid) via irrigational drip to be taken up by healthy citrus trees because vines had been planted near this natural host.

-June, 2000 Spraying in Porterville, Tulare County (about 1,000 homes) of Carbaryl

-June, 2000 Spraying in Fresno County (Golden State Hwy median strip trees, around a citrus packing house and around 918 homes…. At least 3 rounds of sprayings in most cases; 4 rounds in many cases) of Carbaryl and Imidacloprid used.

-September, 2000 Spraying in Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County (480 mobile homes) of Carbaryl

-Later October and early November, 2000 Spraying in Brentwood, Contra Costa County (over 200 homes) of Carbaryl and an irrigational trench of Merit (active ingredient Imidacloprid)

-November, 2000 Spraying in Butte County (park; storage areas; mall; retail stores)

-As of mid-Feb., 2001 planned spraying of 13,000 acres as part of General Beale Rd. Pilot Project in Kern County. Plan was to spray as soon as weather would permit, in February or March. Spraying planned includes Lorsban, Baythroid (Bayer) and Pyrin, both synthetic pyethroids, and Admire

-As of mid-Feb., 2001 planned spraying of Brentwood, Contra Costa County as soon as (expected) GWSS present again

Note: Imidacloprid may also have been used in Porterville or Rancho Cordova. To be double-checked.

-March 22 and 23, 2001 Spraying of Merit (imidacloprid) in Rancho Cordova

-April 12 and 13, 2001 Redrenching of land on Balfour Road in Brentwood, abutting the homes sprayed and drenched last October and November. This done as part of the protocol of the multiple spray program.
